Animal Tip of the Week

Most table scraps are fine for dogs but make sure that they don't contain chocolate and also keep away from chicken bones as they can splinter and cause problems while being digested.

Fish Food

Fish food typically contains plant or animal material and is made up of macro nutrients, trace elements and vitamins essential in keeping captive fish in good health.

There are three main forms of food, that being flake, pellet or tablet.

Flake form

This type of food sits on the surface of your tank and is perfect for the majority of fish. The only thing to watch out for is that you don't over feed your fish as the uneaten food with encourage bacteria growth in your tank.

Pellet form

Often designed to sink rapidly and are used for larger fish or ones that live on the floor of your tank such as catfish. If catfish aren't the only fish in your tank you will typically find that you won't have to directly feed them as they will happily live off the excess flake food and algae in the tank.

Tablet form

This type of food is often useful when you are away for your tank for a given period of time. As the food is compressed it can be submerged in your tank for weeks with the fish feeding from it when required. Please ensure you read the packaging to work out how long it will last and the recommended number of fish that it will nourish.
